The adaptive reuse project deals with the redesigning of the mill into a sports club for the locals in the area. The idea was to respect the existing remaining structure of the mill giving it the relevance in today’s time with the current style of parametric design and architecture.

The project started with considering the site as a vessel, space as the fluid and the use of within the built form of the force acting on the fluid, which allowed the space to expand and contract and achieve its form.

Function or the programmatic requirement act as the pressure points in the force field to grow and act and take its form.

Various experimental models were made to understand the expansion of air such that it can be solidified to achieve a form for the optimum amount of users with the area for the particular function.

Leading to developing iteration with the small scale site model and inflation of balloon to understand the effect of the contact of existing elements with the added skin within the space.

The idea was to create a visually light space which highlighted by the heavy background of the existing structure of the mill. Actualizing the concept of different style of design co-existing with harmony in the conflict.

Considering the existing architecture which is colonial built, made out of concrete brick and wrought iron structure, the new design contradicts the nature of the materials used and hence all the materials used are such that they visually appear light in nature and hence acrylic plates become the major material used along with mild steel and wood.

Various iteration identified during the identification of different conditions which are seen while testing the inflation of the balloon model. These conditions were then used/selected on the basis of the pressure point within the area i.e. the function in that space giving the space a form and structure.  Fluid expansion creating surface tension when provided pressure.
